My Journey as a Writer
In 2021 I suffered a dual hemisphere deep brain infarction (a stroke on both sides of the brain at the same time). In one day, I went from practicing multiple forms of martial arts to being paralyzed on 2/3 of my body. Just as many other stroke victims have done, I laid in the stroke ward at night and could hear people falling out of bed, calling for assistance, or outright sobbing because of what they were going through. I remember laying there looking out my window onto a
cold wet November and thinking – “I wish I could be out
walking in that” and “How did this happen to me”.
Over time, as I recovered, I fell in love with poetry and nature during the long continual walks and excersize. A recovery period that saw the loss of a marriage and all that I knew and loved in my life at that time. But that it brought me back to my childhood home and neighborhood and the writing of this collection of poems.
My journey into writing has been transformative. I hope you find something in poetry or in life that inspires you as well.
